Toward modeling and simulation of the whole cell
Masaru TOMITA

We have been developing E-CELL System (http://www.e-cell.org), a generic software package for modeling and simulating various cellular processes with the ultimate goal of simulating the whole cell. Using the E-CELL System, we are currently constructing computer models of many different cells, such as bacteria, plant cells and human cells including red blood cells, myocardial cells, neural cells, and pancreatic beta-cells.

Besides biosimulation, we are working on genome informatics, analyzing systematically a massive amount of genome and cDNA sequence data of various organisms such as bacteria, plants, mouse and human. An integrative software package for genome informatics is also being developed (http://www.g-language.org).
